As it turns out, we just yesterday had word from Zaire about new ebola cases in Kikwit. Here are two memos that circulated in our office after folks talked to Dan Fountain's daughter Katherine and with missionary Ed Noyes: Katherine Niles called yesterday and we caught up on lots of items, one of which was the Ebola crisis in Zaire. She reported that she had recently talked with her mother by radio (I think within the last couple of days) and learned that 11 more deaths had occurred in Kikwit due to Ebola. While the World Health Organization may have declared that the crisis is over, it's still a crisis if you or your family member dies! Ebola has not disappeared off the screen! As Donna mentioned this morning in her e-mail, the Ebola crisis is not completely over. We recently had word from Ed Noyes that new cases were identified in the Vanga area. Vanga health zone personnel have been responding. A family supposedly returned from Kikwit, the parents died with clear signs of the disease, and they were buried in the traditional manner exposing many others. Their child came down with symptoms and was accused of witchcraft. He was kicked out of his own village, and passed through three other villages before the Vanga health people caught up with him. A half dozen or more cases may develop in the end. Please continue to pray for an end to this awful epidemic. -- With thanks to Jack Woodall for forwarding this report.
