However, tests on the 4 people who lived with Jasper Chea, the one confirmed Ebola case hospitalized in the Ivory Coast, have not been completed. Technical difficulties were incurred at the Pasteur Institute in Abidjan, and the blood samples have been taken to the Paris institute laboratory by Bernard Le Guenno. Jasper Chea (the one confirmed case) is apparently out of danger, leading to the suggestion that this strain may be less virulent. Swiss animal researcher Christophe Boesch is reported having said that about 30 chimps died of Ebola in the Ivorian rainforest bordering Liberia in 1994. - -- Dorothy Preslar FAS / ProMED Washington Officer Federation of American Scientists E-mail: dpreslar@igc.apc.org ......................................................................... ------------------------------ From: Stephen Morse Date: Fri, 15 Dec 1995 13:47:33 EST Subject: PROMED: Ebola - Angola?
